The Current Logo
On the 16th February, 2016, at a meeting of the 150th Anniversary Committee meeting, it was decided that an Art Production
Sub-Committee be formed to facilitate the redesign of the Presbyterian Church’s Logo, and the design of the 150th Anniversary Logo. This committee will also facilitate the uniformed production of Poster, Flyers, and Documentation for the 150th Anniversary Celebrations. This Team would also be responsible for the Art Work within the Commemorative Book and the Music Book Publications.
The first meeting of the Art Production Sub-committee was held on the 1st March, 2016 at the St. Andrew’s Theological College. Convened by Mr. Kevin Mark Ragbir; and comprising members from several Pastoral Regions within our Church namely; Rev. Keron Khellawan, Mr. Narend Narad Sooknarine, Miss. Nirmala R. Rampersad, Mr. Micah Baksh, Mr. Aares Aaron Abdool and Miss Nivienne Sara Abraham, who met to discuss the redesign of the logo. They were later joined by Miss Kristen Teri Bachan, Mr. Kevin Neil Ramkissoon and Mr. Vincent Ramkhelawan on the 10th March, 2016.
The Design Elements
With the PCTT's 150th Anniversary theme " "Honor the Past, Appreciate the future, fulfil the mission" in mind, it was decided that the Five Solas which emerged from the Protestant Reformation's Theological principles would be used as the basis for the design of our new logo. these are:
The Burning Bush: Sola Fide
The burning Bush was medium through which God Spoke to Moses.
This was the focal point of the Logo of the PCTT for the past years.
In honoring the past, the Burning Bush has been redesigned, redrawn and recolored for greater detail, but kept as a major part of the new PCTT Logo. This represents the continuity of our Church from age to age.
The Bible: Sola Scriptura
The Bible is a collection of texts sacred in Judaism and Christianity. It is a collection of scriptures written at different times by different authors in different locations. It is the Word of God.
The open Bible forms the base of the Logo, the base and grounding of our Faith is the Word of God. The open pages are a combination of 2 fishes facing each other
The Cross: Sola Christus
The Empty Cross, indicative of the sacrifice of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The Cross placed at the Centre of the Logo represents Christ being the Centre of our lives is Christ.
The Chancel (the table): Sola Gratia
The Table of our Lord, physically represented by the Chancel, is an open invitation, instituted by Christ the night before His crucifixion.
As we come to the table, we are reminded that it is His Grace Alone that unmerited favour that sets us free.
The Holy Spirit (the dove): Soli De Gloria
The Dove was the bird that, when released by Noah, that brought back the first branch, showing future Hope. The dove was also used by God to represent the Holy Spirit at Jesus' baptism, which brings Peace
The Dove included in the logo represents the Future, Fulfilling the Mission. Spreading the Gospel of Peace and Hope throughout the world
The Ichthys (the fish)
The ichthys or ichthus, from the Greek meaning "fish"), is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point so as to resemble the profile of a fish. It was used by early Christians as a symbol of a secret meeting place.
The fish in the logo is represented by half fishes facing each other, which also forms the pages of the Bible element
The Trinity Hills
In 1492 when Christopher Columbus first sighted this great country, he named it “Trinidad” after seeing trinity hills, saying it reminded him of the Holy Trinity.
The trinity hills on the Logo has been designed with the trinity hills of the Coat of Arms of Trinidad and Tobago in mind.
The Rays
As a church we are the beacon of light which shines through the darkness
The Rays of light shine forth from behind all the elements.
Est. 1868
We have included the “Est. 1868’ as part of this logo for several reasons:
Colour: PCTT Blue
The use of the colour light blue deepening into the darker navy blue, which we have been using over the years, shows the ability of our Church to adapt as we grow older and face new circumstances; yet although we may evolve as a Church as time goes on, our Principles remains firmly grounded.
Burned, but not Consumed
The latin quote ‘Nec Tamen Consumebataur’ was kept as a Unifying Presbyterian Statement, showing that we are still a part of the Presbyterian Faith Worldwide.
We are The P.CTT
“The Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago” is our registered name and thus is stated clearly on our logo.
A note from the 150th Anniversary Art Production Sub-Committee 2016
"The creation of this logo has been a process driven by a deep Love of our Church, our Faith in God, and the Power of Prayer. It is our hope that you see what we see... A Church and Nation which stands firmly rooted on the Word of God. It tells each of us to acknowledge that we are Christian and that it is our responsibility to spread His Gospel. We are set ablaze by Faith, giving all Glory to the Holy Spirit who guides us to Him. We must always be centered on Jesus Christ. It is by His love and Sacrifice that we are safe and secure, surrounded and supported by the strength of His people and His Holy Church!"
